It’s a new semester, so that means it’s time for another newsletter from your favorite web.unc.edu folks. Lots has happened in the past little while. Here are a few spotlights!
As of today we have 760 sites, and 1,489 users on web.unc.edu and more signing up every day! I just took a look at traffic and we have had 7,911 visitors to web.unc.edu sites in the past week alone, and 39,911 pageviews. Remember, you can set up analytics for your site by going to Settings – Google Analytics in the Dashboard of your site.
Just before Christmas we added the UNC Carolina Theme as an option on all web.unc.edu sites. It has been a tremendous success and many groups and departments are using the theme now. Below you will find two examples of some folks using the UNC theme.
Here are two other great sites. One is a portfolio, and the second is a custom site build specifically for a department and housed on web.unc.edu. You’ll notice that both of these, and one above are using domain mapping, which enables them to have a different URL on their sites.
Event Calendar – There are two plugins on your site for working with Events. You can activate the “WP Events Calendar” under Plugins. This plugin alone will give you a calendar that you can embed on a page, or show in a sidebar. but if you would like it to have a UNC look to it you an also activate the “Custom Display of Event Calendar.” This will allow you to have a sidebar widget that will show the dates in the sidebar with a calendar picture.
We have added some very special plugins to the site that allow for more content management type of sites where you can create databases that can be searched.
We are also working on and have tested buddypress on web.unc.edu. Once we add this to the site you will be able to create groups for collaboration on wiki’s, forums, and much more. Stay tuned!
As always, let us know if there is anything you would like to see on the site. Feel free to leave a comment here, or shoot us an email.
