Wiki Documentation

Web.unc.edu allows you to add as many Wiki Pages to your site as you would like.

Introduction Video

Adding Wiki’s

Go do your Dashboard on your site and look for Wiki’s on the left hand side. Click the Add New button. Add the wiki just like a regular post with the title on the top and the content in the middle part.  You can then add the Wiki as a regular content item to your menu using Appearance – Menus.

Once you have created a wiki, you can also add sub-pages on the front end by clicking the “Create New” button on the far right if you have rights to edit the Wiki.

Editing Wiki’s

There are two modes for editing the Wiki.  On the front end of the site you can click the “Edit” button and you can do basic word editing including formatting and linking.  If you click the “Advanced” button you will be redirected to the Dashboard where you can add pictures, videos and other information like a regular post.

Managing Rights

When you create a page in the dashboard, or on the front page you have four options.  On the dashboard these options are on the right hand side of the new wiki page.  On the front end it is below the new page content.

Allow editing by:

  • Anyone - this will allow anyone that can get to make simple formatting edits to your site and links.  They will not be able to upload documents, add pictures/videos etc.
  • Network Users – This will allow anyone with an Onyen who is logged in to web.unc.edu to edit the page.
  • Site Users – This will only allow those that are added as Users in the Dashboard under Users.
  • Users who can edit posts in this site – This will only allows those Users added as Administrator, Author, and Editor to edit the wiki.

Wiki Sidebar

You can add a wiki widget to any sidebar on any theme by going to Appearance – Widgets.  Drag the Sidebar over and put it where you would like the Wiki items to show up.  You can also create a Custom Menu in Appearance – Themes and drag that over to a widget area to display widget content.
